Who do you believe? – Part 2

In the same first chapter of the gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel came again but this time to bring a good news to Mary, Zacharias wife’s cousin. He told Mary that she will soon be pregnant and give birth to a boy, the son of God.

Contrary to Zacharias, Mary did not dispute or disbelief Angel Gabriel but only enquired how it would happen. She acknowledged the message and the good news.

‘Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.’ Luke 1 : 30-38 NKJV

Mary was a virgin who was just about to get married to Joseph. By being pregnant before her marriage, it was disgraceful for her and her family. Especially when the author of her pregnancy is nobody else but God, many would doubt the paternity at this time and many unbelievers still doubt it today. It was then, very shameful for a man to take a wife who was not a virgin, and even more, who was pregnant. However, Mary did not worry about her condition, but trusted God and instead of being anxious or scared, she decided to rejoice. She praised the Lord with a new song, for having been chosen to bear Jesus.

 And Mary said:

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.’
Luke 1: 46-49 NKJV

Mary had faith in God and the Lord honored her by speaking himself to Joseph and prepared him for her condition. Indeed, when you follow God’s purpose joyfully, he will surely make your ways smooth.

‘And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’ Romans 8 :28 NKJV

Mary was not scared, she was not fearful but she just believed and trusted in God.

What makes you believe that the God who made it possible for a virgin woman to be pregnant is not capable to save us from Coronavirus ?

God is the same, today, yesterday and forever and his word will never change (Hebrews 13 :8).

In the mist of the chaos of this pandemic, it is easy to forget the plan God has for us but every plan of God regarding our life is written in the Bible. Be reassured, that Coronavirus will come to an end.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.Romans 8 :28 NKJV

The question you probably ask yourself is

‘how can you believe when everything seems hopeless around you?’

  1. Practice self-care

Protect yourself from everything that will come and agitate your heart.

For example you can make the decision to not expose yourself to some discussions or TV programmes if you know that they will lead you to anxiety or worry.

‘Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.’ Proverbs 4 :23 NIV

  1. Feed your spirit

Decide what comes into your mind, and nourish your spirit.

Decide to spend time in the word of God, meditate on the Bible. Pray, praise and Worship the Lord in your secret place so that he will be able to pour out his Holy Spirit on you and you will be strong enough to face every obstacles coming from outside.

‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.’ Romans 12 :2 NIV

Stay blessed 🙂
